Senior Arborist – Parks

  • Salary Range - Band 7 - $98,730 to $110,484 plus 10% Superannuation
  • Permanent, full-time position
  • Based at South Melbourne Operations Centre

The City of Port Phillip is an inner-city council with around 1000 employees who deliver more than 100 programs and services to our residents, businesses and visitors. About the Role

An exciting opportunity awaits! Play a lead role in protecting and enhancing the Urban Forest of City of Port Phillip’s iconic streets, foreshore, and parklands.

Lead a dedicated, high performing and passionate team of Arborists to deliver Council tree management with a vision and drive for customer service excellence. 

Responsible for the development, coordination and implementation of all Council tree management and maintenance programs. 

Manage our Amenity Tree Maintenance contractor to deliver Council tree maintenance programs, including the Electric Line Clearance Management Plan.

Oversee the provision of technical expertise and advice to internal and external customers and stakeholders to effectively resolve tree-related conflict.

Assist with the development and implementation of policies, strategies and management plans related to trees on both Council and private land.

Skills and Experience 

  • A suitable tertiary qualification plus five years’ experience in Arboriculture, preferably in a Local Government setting
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a high performing team and maintain a positive team culture
  • Highly developed interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills 
  • Demonstrated experience in contract, asset, and financial management 
  • The ability to resolve conflict, negotiate positive outcomes and effectively communicate decisions will be critical to your success in this role.
