Open Space Planner

  • Band 6 – $87,923 to $95,839 salary range plus 10.5% Superannuation
  • Full Time, temporary until December 2024
  • Located at St Kilda Town Hall or with flexible working arrangements possible

The City of Port Phillip is an inner-city council with around 1000 employees who deliver more than 100 programs and services to our residents, businesses and visitors. These range from childcare and immunisations, to libraries, management of parks and open space, rubbish collection, road maintenance and more. About the Role

We are seeking an Open Space Strategy and Planning Officer who can plan, develop and deliver great outcomes for our Foreshore and public open space network. The role would join our dynamic Public Space team to implement Council’s Places for People: Public Space Strategy 2022 – 2032 and assist with the renewal of Council’s Foreshore Management Plan and development of the Coastal Adaptation Strategy.   

The role would suit someone who understands coastal and open space usage and planning, is experienced in preparing strategies and guidelines and is responsive to the needs of the community. 

Duties:

  • Review, prepare and deliver strategies and planning policies relating to public open space and the foreshore to ensure they are current and responsive to the needs, aspirations and goals of Council and the community.
  • Undertake effective, accurate and timely research to inform strategy work and to ensure the organisation is addressing current trends and achieving best practice.
  • Provide expert advice and information to Council, staff, public authorities and the community on open space issues including representing Council on committees and meetings.
  • Prepare reports to Council as required on policy, planning and operational issues related to services responsible to this position.
  • Respond to community requests on open space planning and the foreshore.
  • ·Provide support to the Coordinator Foreshore and Senior Open Space Planner. 

Skills and Experience

  • Experience in urban planning, open space planning, coastal planning, urban design or a closely related discipline.
  • High level written and verbal communications skills and demonstrated ability to prepare concise and accurate reports and presentations. Ability to work with Adobe Creative Suite is desirable.
  • Ability to confidently address and liaise with a range of internal and external stakeholders including community groups and individuals.
  • Demonstrated excellent conceptual, strategic and analytical skills.
