Planning Compliance Officer – Environmentally Sustainable Design (ESD)
- Salary Range Band 6 $95,799 - $104,420 plus 11.5% Super
- Full time, 2-year temporary position
- Located at St Kilda Town Hall with flexible working arrangements possible.

About the Role
Enhance the environmental sustainability of private development across the City of Port Phillip by applying your sound planning compliance experience to focus on environmentally sustainable design (ESD). Reporting to the Coordinator of Planning Compliance, you will investigate whether developments are implementing the ESD commitments that form part of the planning permit approval.
This fixed-term two-year trial position sits within the Planning Compliance team with a specific focus on all ESD aspects of planning approvals, investigating on-site implementation in new developments and working closely with the ESD team. Your understanding of how good ESD outcomes are secured through the statutory planning process will be supported by the in-depth technical expertise of the ESD team.
Duties:
- Monitor and track development activity for planning approvals with ESD commitments
- Monitor applicant response to ESD conditions on permits
- Liaise directly with applicants to require ESD implementation evidence
- Investigate non-compliances for ESD commitments
- Undertake appropriate compliance action
Skills and Experience
- Academic: A tertiary qualification in Planning, Planning Law or equivalent (highly desirable) or lesser formal qualifications with substantial relevant experience
- Experience: Experience in investigation and enforcement, including giving evidence at various courts and tribunals of competent jurisdiction
- Demonstrated technical knowledge of enforcement procedures under the Planning and Environment Act, Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal Act and other relevant legislation
