Waste Education Officer

  • Salary Range Band 4 $72,289 - $77,010 pro rata plus 11.5% Super
  • 6 month Part time Fixed term contract, 22.6 hours per week 
  • Located at the South Melbourne Operations Centre

About the Organisation 

The City of Port Phillip is an inner-city council with around 1000 employees who deliver more than 100 programs and services to our residents, businesses and visitors. These range from childcare and immunisations, to libraries, management of parks and open space, rubbish collection, road maintenance and more. City of Port Phillip has zero tolerance for child abuse and is a committed Child Safe organisation.

About the Role

Come be part of an award-winning team! The City of Port Phillip is on a mission: to reduce waste-to-landfill through our Don’t Waste It! strategy and become a market-leader in the waste and recycling industry. 

Over the past two years, we’ve introduced Food and Garden Organics collections to houses and apartments receiving Council Kerbside services. We’ve also installed Community Food and Garden Organics and Glass Recycling Hubs in parks and reserves throughout the municipality. We’re looking for a superstar who can help us drive our audit programs, provide insights into bin use, and help encourage sustainable behaviours across our waste and recycling streams.

Duties:

  • Perform audits across waste and recycling services
  • Capture insights into usage, contamination levels, and utilisation
  • Provide education where needed to steer behaviour towards sustainable best practice

Skills and Experience 

  • Demonstrable passion and knowledge across the waste and recycling industry
  • Experience in field-based auditing or community engagement initiatives
  • Possess a current Victorian driver’s license

Security Requirements and Professional Obligations

  • Evidence of a Working with Children Check (employee type with City of Port Phillip registered as the organisation).  
  • Be required to undertake a pre-employment medical check (at the cost of the council)
