Children’s Centre Cook

  • Salary range Band 4 $72,289 to $77,010 plus 11.5% Super (pro rata)
  • 12 Months, Part time 30 hours per week (Monday – Friday 6hrs per day 8am - 2pm)
  • Based at Clark Street Children’s Centre Port Melbourne

About the Role

We currently have 1x Part Time role available at 30 hours per week

Duties:

  • Responsible for the planning and preparation of menu and meals for 65 children per day
  • Ensure meals are nutritionally balanced, cost effective and prepared in accordance to food safety standards
  • Consult with Families, Children and Educators in relation to menu planning.
  • Order appropriate supplies in accordance with budget and planned menu
  • Develop and maintain meaningful relationships with children, families, colleagues, and the centre community.
  • Actively working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensuring we have a clean and safe kitchen environment in accordance with food safety regulations.
  • Experienced in dealing with children with food allergies

Skills and Experience 

  • We are seeking someone with exceptional interpersonal skills, ability to develop effective relationships with families and staff.  Appropriate written and verbal communication skills are also a requirement. 
  • Candidate must hold a Food Safety Supervisor for the Health and Childcare Sector Certificate and Food Handlers Certificate 
  • Sound knowledge of recommended daily intake requirement for children, planning well balanced and nutritious menus.
  • Knowledge and experience adhering to the Food Act and Food Safety Programs

  • Evidence of a Working with Children Check (employee type with City of Port Phillip registered as the organisation).  
  • Be required to undertake a pre-employment medical check (at the cost of the council)
