Animal Management Officer 

  • Salary Range Band 5 $79,188 - $91,309 plus 11.5% Super
  • Permanent Full-Time opportunity 
  • Based at St Kilda Town Hall with flexible working arrangements possible

The City of Port Phillip is an inner-city council with around 1000 employees who deliver more than 100 programs and services to our residents, businesses and visitors. These range from childcare and immunisations, to libraries, management of parks and open space, rubbish collection, road maintenance and more. About the Role

We are looking for someone who is passionate about the safety of the community and who will provide high quality and responsive animal management services. The ideal candidate will be community focused, have excellent interpersonal skills and a 'can do' attitude when engaging with the community, and making decisions to support responsible pet ownership within the City of Port Phillip.

Duties:

  • Administer and enforce the requirements of the Domestic Animals Act 1994
  • Impound animals in accordance with legislation, investigate dog attacks and other offences
  • Undertake regular patrols both within and outside usual business hours
  • Interview, advise and educate members of the public in regard to animal related issues.
  • To respond to and resolve customer requests pertaining to Animal Management

Skills and Experience 

  • Certificate IV in Government (Statutory Compliance) PSP41412 and Certificate IV Animal Control and Regulation ACM40110 (or the ability to achieve the same within a 12month period) or at least 5 years previous experience in animal handling and/or law enforcement background.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills with ability to tailor to audience
  • Knowledge of the Domestic Animals Act, Local Laws and relevant legislations desirable

Security Requirements and Professional Obligations

  • Evidence of a Working with Children Check (employee type with City of Port Phillip registered as the organisation).  
  • Be required to undertake a pre-employment medical check (at the cost of the council)
