What’s the role all about 

We know that not everyone in our community can access public or private transport services. That is why we have introduced our free Hop-on, Hop-off Community Transport routed service. The service currently operates Monday to Friday 8.30 am to 3 pm and has over 150 community transport bus stops between Caulfield Hospital, Elwood, South Melbourne Market, Alfred Hospital and St Kilda Library. Pick up and drop off is from designated Community Transport Bus stops only.

What you might do 

  • Drive minibus on a planned hop on hop off route service.
  • Complete the required Community Transport paperwork as required by the City of Port Phillip and Safe Transport Victoria including Vehicle Report Forms, Defect Report Forms.
  • Document and report consumer feedback about the service.
  • Maintain the bus in a clean condition to ensure passenger comfort and safety.
  • Ensure the community bus service operates as close as possible to the daily planned time schedule safety.
  • Assist passengers to board and exit the bus, fit, and wear seatbelts, and assist with loading and loading shopping, and mobility aids while using safe manual handling techniques.

Who we are looking for 

  • Demonstrated experience driving a minibus/ commuter bus.
  • Previous experience in transporting and assisting passengers, in particular older people, and people with a disability.
  • Demonstrate experience in communicating effectively with people of all ages and from a wide range of social, cultural, economic backgrounds and experiences.
  • Demonstrate safety focus and knowledge of bus safety requirements.

We are looking for someone with a passion for supporting older persons, people with varied abilities and the vulnerable members of our community to access their community buy utilizing Council run Community Transport Service. The successful applicant will have an understanding of the issues facing older people, people with a disability and/or their carer, people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds, people who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, or intersex (LGBTQI+), people of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Island background, people experiencing financial disadvantage including people who are homeless or risk of being homeless and people with cognitive decline or mental health issues.

Important pre-employment requirements   

Prior to a formal letter of offer, preferred applicants will be asked to provide: 

  • Evidence of current first aid certificate, current CPR certificate and working with children’s check  
  • Sufficient proof of right to work in Australia, and proof of identity.  
  • Complete a National Police Check completed via City of Port Phillip’s Provider. 
  • Be required to undertake a pre-employment medical check (at the cost of the council)
  • Victorian Driver Licence and VicRoads Licence verification. 
  • Driver Accreditation Certificate with Commercial Passenger Vehicles Victoria (CPVV).
