About City of Port Phillip
We are a vibrant and diverse inner-city council stretching 20kms from South to Port Melbourne along the stunning bay beaches down to Elwood and out to St Kilda East with around 1000 people who all work together to deliver more than 100 programs and services to our engaged community of residents, businesses and visitors. What’s the role all about
This core governance role will see you lead the delivery of Council meetings, Councillor briefings and Planning Committee meetings. You will provide advice and support to the wider organisation in the delivery of council business requirements and compliance with relevant legislation and internal policies. You will provide leadership and support to the Council Business Advisor.
This role would suit a pro-active and solutions focused thinker with the ability to build strong working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
Practical experience in leading the development and implementation of policies, practices and procedures that contribute to broader governance and legislative compliance is essential.
An understanding of Council policies, with a particular focus on the Governance Rules, along with experience in writing Council reports and submissions, is highly desirable.
Proficiency in InfoCouncil and Records Management systems and / or the ability to quickly learn new system is required.

What you might do
- Lead the delivery of Council business and governance activities
- Provide leadership within the governance team
- Support compliance with governance policies and processes
- Build strong relationships across the organisation
- Report to Council and the Executive Leadership team on governance matters.

- Extensive experience in a governance role
- A sound understanding of meeting procedures and good governance practices.
- Demonstrated ability to work across a large organisation and build positive professional relationships with a range of stakeholders.
- High level of problem-solving skills and a proactive customer-first approach.
- High level of technical competency.
