Venue & Events Duty Officer
- Salary Range Band 4 $47.56 – $50.66 per hour inclusive of casual loading plus 12% Super
- Multiple casual positions available
- Monthly rosters to cover shifts on weekdays, weekends, public holidays as required

The City of Port Phillip is an inner-city council with around 1000 employees who deliver more than 100 programs and services to our residents, businesses and visitors. About the Role
The Venue Management team are seeking to expand the pool of Casual Venue and Events Duty Officers. This is an opportunity to apply your excellent customer service skills to assist with the efficient operation of Council’s 13 Community Centres and Town Halls. The role includes servicing meetings and events in halls and meeting rooms across the municipality for internal and external stakeholders.
Successful applicants must be available to work weekdays, after hours, weekends and public holidays. Shifts are rostered monthly with no set guaranteed hours.
Duties:
- Provide proactive support, advice and guidance to event organisers, visitors, contractors and Council staff during events to ensure the facilities and resources are used and maintained correctly.
- Undertake the opening and closing activities of the venues for rostered events and meetings including physical set up and pack down of council venue bookable spaces
- Act as onsite emergency warden to ensure the safety and risk mitigation of rostered events and meetings within Council Venues.
- Brief, liaise and manage Council’s event contractors during rostered events to ensure the smooth running of events.
- Food distribution and service of catering and beverages in line with relevant legislation and Council Policies
- Ensure all facilities and resources are used and maintained correctly and any damages are reported
Skills and Experience:
- Demonstrated experience providing excellent customer service in a fast-paced environment. Preferably in hospitality, venues or events but not essential.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to confidently communicate effectively with people of all ages, backgrounds and capabilities to relay feedback and act as the person of authority in an emergency.
- Ability to work under minimal supervision, problem solve and resolve issues as they arise while on duty while managing resources and time constraints.
- Enthusiasm and the willingness to learn and work flexibly within a small team and balance competing demands.
- Physically capable of performing manual handling duties
- Current Australian full driver’s license, Responsible Service of Alcohol certificate, Emergency Warden or willing to obtain, Employee Working with Children’s certificate, Food Handling certificate or willing to obtain
