Community Greening Officer

  • Salary Range Band 6 $99,631 - $108,597 pro rata plus 12% Super
  • Permanent Part-time 0.4 FTE
  • Located at St Kilda Town Hall with flexible working arrangements possible

About the Organisation 

The City of Port Phillip is an inner-city council with around 1000 employees who deliver more than 100 programs and services to our residents, businesses and visitors. These range from childcare and immunisations, to libraries, management of parks and open space, rubbish collection, road maintenance and more. City of Port Phillip has zero tolerance for child abuse and is a committed Child Safe organisation. 

About the Role

Do you have a strong vision to deliver innovative greening solutions to a dynamic urban environment?  We are seeking an experienced Community Greening Officer who can develop strong connections with our passionate community, support community greening projects and develop resources to increase biodiversity and local food growing both on public land and for residents at home.  

This is a unique opportunity to increase biodiversity, canopy cover and vegetation diversity in a high-profile area which includes iconic parkland, foreshore areas and city streets. The role is focused on expanding our current practices and contributing to a connected community with strong greening practices. To be successful in the role you will have a sound background in an urban greening field like biodiversity, ecology or horticulture, be a confident communicator and a committed team player. 

Duties:

  • Develop resources to assist the community to urban greening across the municipality. 
  • Provide advice and information to the community on greening and open space issues. 
  • Work with residents to resolve compliance issues in nature strip gardens and other public gardens.
  • Update and maintain Council’s website in relation to greening and open space. 
  • Provide support to the Coordinator Urban Forest.

Skills and Experience 

  • Ability to build and develop positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders. 
  • Tertiary qualifications in ecology, horticulture, open space planning or a closely related discipline or demonstrated relevant professional experience. 
  • Ability to interpret and convey complex information to different audiences using a range of mediums. 
  • Proactive approach and ability to manage own time, manage projects and resources to meet deadlines.
  • Victorian Driver Licence
