We are a vibrant and diverse inner-city council stretching 20kms from South to Port Melbourne along the stunning bay beaches down to Elwood and out to St Kilda East with around 1000 people who all work together to deliver more than 100 programs and services to our engaged community of residents, businesses and visitors. What’s the role all about
The Sustainability and Climate Change team lead the organisation’s environmental sustainability approach, collaborating with the community, government and other stakeholders to deliver programs and services which set our city up for a more sustainable and climate resilient future. We take an evidence-based approach to drive the organisation’s climate change mitigation and adaptation response and support the community to decarbonise and be more resilient.
This role is an opportunity to join a highly skilled team with expertise in climate adaptation, decarbonisation, integrated water management, environmentally sustainable design and partnerships.
What you might do
- Provide expert technical and practical advice on climate change, decarbonisation and sustainability to support Council decision making and community outcomes
- Design, deliver and evaluate climate change and decarbonisation programs that engage and support community members and local businesses to act.
- Lead or contribute to the project management of multi-disciplinary sustainability initiatives, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within scope and budget
- Work closely with internal teams, other councils, government partners and community stakeholders to progress Council’s climate and sustainability strategies.
- Actively contribute to a positive, collaborative team culture, with a strong focus on customer service and delivering value for the Port Phillip community.
Who we are looking for
- A sustainability professional with strong technical knowledge of climate change, decarbonisation and sustainability, able to provide practical, evidence based advice to Council and the community.
- Demonstrated experience designing and delivering engagement programs that support community members and businesses to act on climate change
- A collaborative relationship builder who can work effectively with internal teams, other councils, government partners and external stakeholders to achieve shared sustainability outcomes
- Proven project management capability with experience leading or contributing to multi-disciplinary climate change, decarbonisation or sustainability projects within agreed scope, timelines and budgets
- A value driven team player who contributes positively to organisational culture, with a strong customer service mindset and commitment to delivering value for the community
