6 Month Fixed Term Contract

Are you a safety professional who enjoys influence, variety and making a practical difference?

The City of Port Phillip is seeking a Health and Safety Advisor to join our Safety and Wellbeing team on a six month contract. This is a fantastic opportunity to step into a meaningful role where your advice, expertise and judgement will directly support leaders and improve safety outcomes across a diverse organisation.

Working closely with the Head of Safety and Wellbeing, you will manage a varied and engaging portfolio while contributing to key initiatives across the People, Culture and Safety department. This role goes well beyond compliance and offers real scope to partner, influence and embed positive change.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Partner with leaders across the organisation to implement and embed the Safety Management System
  • Provide expert advice on complex risk assessments, incident investigations and health and safety matters
  • Support the development and rollout of practical prevention initiatives, including those aligned to our child safety framework
  • Assist with governance activities including internal audits and assurance processes
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and a strong safety culture across council 

What You Bring

  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work effectively at all levels
  • Sound knowledge of relevant health and safety legislation, regulations and policy frameworks
  • Practical experience designing and implementing prevention focused initiatives
  • Confidence operating in a fast paced and complex environment
  • A collaborative and improvement focused mindset
  • Relevant qualifications or substantial experience in health and safety or a related field

  • Evidence of a Working with Children Check (employee type with City of Port Phillip registered as the organisation).
